So my landlord thought it was a good idea to explore our rooftop. Brought my camera, and I liked it’s view. So what’d I do?
Exactly! Pretty sure you guessed correctly that I took my 15mm fisheye, slammed it on my 5DII fullframe and I captured it’s view in 360 degree panorama. The result is OK, not perfect but it’s fine. I had to patch up quite a lot of things in Photoshop, but who cares. One of the photo’s is actually from the first panorama attemt, which I found out when I saw the shadow of a tree was a lot further than the other pic. I guess Earth DOES rotate around the sun hehe.

So that was Logan. I’ve not been chatting a lot on Omegle. I guess less than 10 convo’s in 30 days, but yet I re-found a really nice person. Here’s the pic that came out of that convo:
So, I didn’t need to work last Wednesday. What did I do? Well, I felt like going for a bike trip.
I left home pretty late, around 2PM, but ended doing a 80km trip. Had lot’s of wind, which wasn’t helping. And even a bit of rain inbetween Kleve and Emmerich. But in the end, I made it back home. I also got some groceries in Kleve, so my backpack was top-heavy. Wasn’t helping but it’s always fun doing groceries in a different country with different products.
A small experiment: took my EOS M Systemcamera along and shot all pics in RAW format. I never did that before with this camera, but I feel I should’ve used that feature a long long time ago.

Today, the Dutch have been celebrating Kingsday. For me it went a ride on my bicycle to two friends.
They live about 20km away and ended up, with a detour, making it a nice 50km ride. Took some photos along the route, and also capture my friends parrot, Senna. What great name!
Throughout the years, I’ve made quite some stencils. I mostly design them on the computer, print them and cut them out with a hobbyknife.
It might sound a little basic, but just painting a piece of canvas in one solid color and then adding a black stencil is quite cool to do. The results are smooth and look great. Here are some examples of “paintings” I’ve done. They’re all from my livingroon.
So a new website, and a totally new approach. What has happened?
Well, about 8 months ago I was able to rent a very large space for a great price. So I took the deal and started my own company. Stfoto was finally something official, and I had a place to set my own studio up.
I’ve learnt a lot in a very short time. Both about photography and about the whole business side of it. Financial stuff, customer journeys and customer service: I had a long way to go.
I must say, if I’d do it again I would do it totally different. Is that a bad thing? Nah, means I’ve learnt a lot which is fine. Bottomline is; I’ve had a LOT of fun in the studio.
Anyway I had to leave the place since the owner found a new destination for the room.
I decided to focus again on my life rather than work. I have a great job at VGZ and my passion for all of my hobbies hasn’t vanished. So that’s what I’m going to focus on. I’m working out too to get myself in shape which brings a lot of traveling, workouts, healthy foods along. I’m going to travel more again, do creative projects, work on the airsoft field and so much more. I want to capture it all and blog about it here. So the corporate website Stfoto.nl had became turned again back into a very personal blog.
Well that’s it for now, enjoy the new website. I started all of this after talking to Ola who I met yesterday. She inspired me to actually blog again, and I ended up working on this website and writing this update until now, which is 3:30 AM. Gheez…. I need some sleep… Did I mention I’m working on a healthier lifestyle yet?
The weather became sunny again, and since I love to ride my bicycle I thought it was time to grab my bike and see what was out there.
Here in the Netherlands, we often have rain and cold weather. But not today. No, the sun was shining. I felt good, and in a very healthy mood so I decided to eat some beans and tuna in the morning. After that I went for a quick tour on my bike. Eventhough the Netherlands is famous for being as flat as a pancake, there’s a nasty little hill in our area which is still higher than the average speedbump; the Posbank. (not to be confused with Postbank, an old Dutch bank which is now known as ING).
After hearing many people talking about this horrific mountain, I decided to challenge it myself. Well I have to say, the view is quite nice, but the Posbank itself isn’t much of a challenge. It was fun tho! Here are some pics I took.
So, I needed a haircut. Saw this advert about this barbershop and decided to go.
As a photographer, I often have my camera with me. Started talking about photography and I ended up making some portrait pics of all the people working there. Best thing yet: I had a free haircut!

Remember George? He was one of the two guys who joined me on a crazy bicycle adventure.
So he came over to inspect my studio, of course he had to become the subject of my next creative session, fun times.
Emma and me like to travel a lot. Especially she likes Germany, and I like to go to new places. So it became München since it was also close to the Alps.
We’ve seen a lot of stuff and we experienced a lot of diversity. I mean, we stayed at a 4 star hotel in a shady neighbourhood, and used Couchsurfing to crash at an awesome guy’s place. We saw the horrific Dachau, and cheered at the finals of the World Cup. Saw nature in the Alps, and enjoyed the exciting city center of München. Sinds een jaartje of twee zijn de systeemcamera’s hélemaal in. Dit zijn soort combinaties tussen een spiegelreflex waar je lenzen van kan verwisselen, en digitale compactcamera’s welke, zoals de naam al suggereert, een stuk compacter zijn. Nadeel was altijd dat je dus geen lenzen kan verwisselen waardoor je vast zit aan de standaard lens die er op zit.
Canon kwam ook met een systeemcamera uit, de Canon EOS M. Momenteel zijn daar twee Canon lenzen voor; de EF-M 18-55 en de EF-M 22mm F2 pancake (pannekoek) lens.
Echter, een stelletje slimmerikken kwamen op het idee om beveiligingcamera-lenzen op de EOS-M te zetten. Door middel van een speciale tussenring passen deze goedkope maar leuke lenzen zó op de EOS-M. En het resultaat? Creatief, origineel, apart en redelijk onbruikbaar voor écht gebruik. Maar het fun-gehalte is onwijs leuk bij deze lenzen. Stfoto bestelde voor slechts €16 euro (inc. verzendkosten!) een converterring met 25mm F1.4 CCTV lens en speelde hier een dagje mee.
De lens kwam binnen, en oogt best degelijk. Hij is van zilver metaal en het diafragma opent en sluit soepel. Ook past hij heel netjes op de tussen-ring, welke op zijn beurt weer perfect aansluit op de EOS-M. Persoonlijk vind ik het er kicke uit zien, een beetje zoals ouderwetse camera’s, maar dan met een digitale achtergrond.
Het kijken door de lens is heel apart. Het focussen is meer een soort gok, heel dichtbij komt hij standaard niet. Ook is de waas rondom erg sterk, en is het uiteinde van de lens duidelijk te zien op de foto’s. Een beetje croppen in photoshop is dus op zijn plaats.
De camera belicht bij manual exposure de foto’s nét te veel. Stel de camera te donker in en je foto’s zijn prima belicht.
Bij de lens zitten ook twee macro-ringen welke je op elkaar kan draaien (of je gebruikt er één). Dit maakt het setje echt bijzonder compleet. Met beide ringen zijn echt hele gave macrofoto’s te maken waar de scherpte me enorm meevalt. Zeker voor een lens van deze prijs. Gebruik je één macrolens, dan is de camera perfect voor bloemen en andere objecten van ongeveer 5 bij 5 cm. Beide ringen zijn top als je dingen van 1 bij 1 cm fotografeert. Heel leuk, hier ga ik nog veel plezier van hebben!
Wil je een beetje retro/hipsterfoto’s maken in het park of op feestjes, dan is dit een leuke lens. Buiten doet hij het bij genoeg licht heel goed. En ook met een hogere iso is het ‘s avonds prima foto’s maken. Zorg wel dat je even oefent zodat je hem zelf snel kan scherpstellen. De foto’s hebben extreem veel vignetting en zelfs een mooie strakke cirkel wanneer je het diafragma helemaal dicht draait. Ook hier weer: croppen tot je 70% van je foto over houdt.
Heb je een EOS-M dan is dit een onwijs leuke uitbreiding. Ik heb hier nu al meer plezier van gehad dan ik mijn lensbaby gebruikt heb, en ze staan qua fun-wathebje’raan-gehalte op dezelfde plek. Qua prijs is het niet te vergelijken. Het zal voor mij geen standaard vakantielens worden, maar als de EOS-M ergens naartoe gaat, dan gaat deze wel mee. Zie hieronder de foto’s. Allemaal iets bewerkt en gecropped, op ééntje na.
Wanneer je fanatiek met fotografie bezig bent is het geweldig als je de volgende stap kan zetten; een eigen fotostudio. Maar als je de studio hebt krijg je er naast iets geweldigs ook heel wat vragen bij. Hoe ga je zorgen voor bekendheid? Wat ga je eigenlijk fotograferen? Hoeveel vraag je voor een fotoshoot? Wat kan je naast fotoshoots nog meer doen? Hoogste tijd voor een brainstormsessie.
Samen met Camilla en Emma hebben we gisteren een geweldige dag gehad. We hebben vooral gedacht over creatieve en gezellige sessies die we in de studio kunnen hebben. We hebben alle drie heel veel ideeën opgeschreven welke zo out of the box konden zijn als we konden verzinnen. Ik weet niet zeker of de jacuzzi er ooit komt, maar het idee staat op papier. Zo ook de aanwezigheid van bordspelletjes, radiografisch bestuurbare wagentjes ter ontspanning tussen de shoots door en een groot stuk leeg papier waar elke bezoeker iets met stift op kan schrijven. Dit is iets wat ik ook bij veel couchsurfers heb gezien, en dat is echt onwijs leuk.
Het meest concrete plan is een kleine receptie welke ik aanstaande vrijdag wil houden. Een gezellige groep couchsurfers uit de omgeving (en wellicht die tijdelijk in Arnhem verblijven) komen gezellig langs. Terwijl we ons allemaal klaar maken om vrijdag-avond uit te gaan en zo het weekend te beginnen, hebben we een drankje en maken we mooie foto’s. Gezelligheid en creativiteit, een perfecte combinatie.
Verder zijn er heel veel concepten, steekwoorden en ideeën. Het is vooral nu belangrijk om alles wat ik écht in de studio moet hebben, er te krijgen. Dus nog een bureau/werktafel, de cadeau-gekregen-spiegel en een aantal mooie foto’s op canvas geprint.
We zouden rond 6u naar huis gaan. Echter, 9 uur zaten we er nog en Emma lag zelfs al te slapen in de studio. En tóch hebben we het idee dat we nog heel veel meer te bespreken en bedenken hebben. Snel dus een vervolgsessie, met nog meer goede ideeën!

De studio begint steeds meer de vorm te krijgen zoals we voor ogen hebben. En dat is maar goed ook, want we willen ons vooral bezig houden met mooie foto’s maken.
Vorige week hebben we de zithoek veel meer vorm gegeven. Hier kan nu relaxed gezeten worden met een drankje, magazines en gezelligheid. Heel belangrijk om een shoot voor/na te bespreken of om tijdens fotoshoots even op adem te komen. Ook is het een perfecte hoek om inspiratie op te doen uit alle boeken en magazines.
De dag er na hebben we de zithoek meteen even uitgetest met Isaa en Esther, die ook model hebben gestaan. Zie hier de foto’s van die dag, en de zithoek.
Bijna weekend, en dat is mooi. Stfoto heeft namelijk een hele drukke week achter de rug. En de resultaten? Die delen we dan ook graag.
Since I was 16 years old, I wanted my own photostudio, and now it’s finally there.
In between Nijmegen and Arnhem, is the small city of Bemmel. It’s here were I’ve rented an old gym from a school. The gym is huge, and thus perfect for my studio. I can make it pitchdark, or use natural light.
So far, I’ve done some test-shots with my 1.6 meter wide backdrop. But tomorrow, I’ll receive 5 backdrops all 2.7 meters wide. Two black, two white and a greenscreen. Nice. Here are some test-shots.

So I went to Utrecht to celebrate my girlfriends graduation, got back and took these pics.
A while ago I tried some product-photography and I really liked it. So I picked it up again over the weekend and had some satisfying results. Still not where I want to be, but it’ll come in time.
Been picking up creative stuff again, so I got some markers and graffiti cans. Now let’s do some stuff.
Last night, I couldn’t sleep. Then it started to rumble in the sky; lightning.
I left my 5D2 at work so I was left with my 11 year old camera, the EOS 10D, modified IR camera. With a fisheye lens. Usually not your typical combination for some storm/lightning photography. So what was the result?
This photo is actually 4 pics merged together, blended in. Total shuttertime: 80 seconds.
